The Power of Our RebelCMS Front End

A quick guide to how we power the modern content lifecycle

The open web is not linear. In the next decade, quality content will continue to mean nothing without effective distribution that translates into increased wins on site, search, and social. The content lifecycle is fluid in nature, and users are only going to become more picky about consuming content where they feel the most comfortable. Keeping tabs on the modern user is a tireless job, and most publishing technologies cannot keep up with the rapid speed of the industry.

RebelCMS offers an intelligent front end that gives content creators the powerful tools they need to guide a modern content strategy that's backed by data and designed for savvy audiences. With blazing page speeds, an elegant user experience, and community-focused marketing tools snapped into every workflow, publishers can take back organic growth and sustainable revenue as we enter the 2020s.

Here's a brief summary of how we power the modern content lifecycle:

RebelCMS Front End: Success Starts With Page Speed

Great page speed is the only way to gain entry into the new content lifecycle. Without it, your content is dead in the water. Recently, Google redesigned how they measured page speed, and the stricter rules have made it even harder for publishers to score well in its PageSpeed Insights tool. When the change first rolled out, legacy publishers saw their scores plummet to 20 or below.

As the popularity of the major platforms ebbs and flows, it's important to publish to a site that readers want to return to instead of abandoning immediately due to slow load times and/or painful experiences with ads. We use several methods to ensure site optimization for every publisher we power, because a slow site often results in a decline in your readership and bottom line.

Here's more on our lightning-fast site experience:

RebelCMS Front End: Supported by a Modern UX

Optimal page speed is mandatory, but keeping users on your site for as long as possible is just as important. The front end of our RebelCMS makes it easy for content creators to build a site experience that's streamlined and intuitive. Some of the biggest names in new media, including Axios, launched on a design we created and named Social Media for UX. The design combines "easy to collapse and expand" articles with an infinite scroll layout so that users can quickly handpick content in an experience that mimics the social feeds.

RebelCMS also promotes state-of-the-art media through our Particle Assembler. It's a feature built in to our Entry Editor that breaks down articles into particles, or parts of an article. Particles allow creators to move and organize content in a way that's easy to consume, share, and monetize.

Here's more on our enterprise user experience:

RebelCMS Front End: Wired for Creativity

The content lifecycle isn't possible without writers and editors. This is why our front end is equipped with a robust editorial suite to support creators themselves. Our ceaseless site optimization and modern user experience both play a supportive role for perhaps the most important feature of our platform — the creative layer that powers every publisher's strategy. Whether it's a legacy brand, new media company, e-commerce site, or anything in between, our offerings for content creators empower them to set up every article for success.

Directly available from our Entry Editor is an enterprise-grade toolset for content creators to discover distributive growth opportunities before each article is published. Our proprietary, data-driven search technology allows users to identify trending keywords and strategize around acquiring high rankings in search. A full selection of social tools, including influencer outreach and dynamic social scheduling, are also available right from within the editing interface.

Additionally, we put the power of design back into the hands of content creators with our easy-to-use layout options. Site designs that look like they required hours of developer work can be created by editors in just a few clicks. And our Layout & Design tool makes every website's design, structure, and ad placement easy to manage. Users can drag and drop design elements easily, as well as test them in real time to identify the site design that resonates with their readers.

Our flexible front end was built in the age of social, and iterates at the speed of the digital industry. Here's more on how we help content creators reach new audiences with every post:

RebelCMS Front End: Built for Increased Engagement

Once you've secured a fast site experience that encourages readership, you need to equip yourself with tools that enable you to nurture that engagement. No matter how large or small your audience is, moving the needle on engagement puts you on the fast track to capturing more conversions, repeat visits, and loyalty.

Here's a well-known secret: Static media is dead. Publishing is no longer a two-dimensional paradigm because digital and social opened up the doors to a universe of creators. These creators make up the loyal readership you've built up through the powerful front end of RebelCMS. They're already passionate about your content, so it's time to get them involved.

Our platform supports a customizable community workflow that fuels dynamic collaboration with features like adjustable user roles and ratings, annotations, comment editing, and content stages woven directly into our editing environment. The front end also has contest creation features to spark even more engagement.

The best part of living in a universe of creators is that there's always room for growth. Our tech can identify key influencers who would likely engage with your content before you even hit the publish button.

Here's more on how our platform builds communities:

RebelCMS Front End: Flourish Through Data

The "post and pray" approach was an early tactic where publishers would often post content blindly in hopes that something would go viral. The pitfalls of "post and pray" eventually led to the advancement of complex data that's now available to publishers of all sizes. But useful site and traffic metrics need to be clear and easy to consume by creators in order to be truly effective. After all, they're the ones shaping your content strategy on a daily basis.

RebelMouse offers a native collection of metrics for every site we power. Using Google Data Studio, our traffic experts build custom dashboards that showcase the current scope of distributive reach. This makes it easy to identify mediums, strategies, and approaches that work, and also helps identify any pain points that can be turned into actionable insights and solutions.

We've also taken what we know about modern publishing to create a new pageview methodology that increases time on site and revenue.

RebelCMS Front End: Your Ticket to Modern Publishing

This has been a quick guide to how our front end can power your modern content lifecycle. The user journey starts the moment a user clicks to your site, and continues through nurturing that readership to conversion and repeat engagement.

Publishers often think that to create a tech platform that supports this type of lifecycle, it must be created through a custom build or by using an expensive, big-box solution. On RebelMouse, you can take advantage of everything you could ever want from a custom solution without all of the headaches. Our technology can be as custom or as streamlined as your content needs. Just like with modern content, our solution is always iterating alongside the industry to ensure your content is optimized for success across all distributive platforms.

We're also a centralized CMS, which means that our updates and upgrades happen across all of the sites we power all at once. Gone are the days of needing a third-party, managed hosting company that's required with alternative platforms like WordPress and Drupal. Not only will your content be supported with a proven strategy that fuels growth, but you'll always have the most up-to-date version of our technology without any security surprises or mandatory and complex product updates.

Start publishing ahead of the curve in the new decade. Request a proposal today and let's start working together.

How to Include Interactive Elements in Posts

Enhance your articles with rich and creative media

Every article is a fresh chance to grab new readers and nurture loyal followers. This is why we give creators every opportunity to build content rich with media elements that enhance every reader's experience.

Add More Layers to Your Content

You can easily add interactive elements, like charts, to posts on our platform. For example, if you need to embed iframe code into a post, this can be done via our Add Media Bar. To do so, click the code icon (< >):

A text box will appear so you can insert your code:

Embedded Code Across Platforms

One important thing to keep in mind is that Google AMP, AppleNews, and Facebook Instant Articles will not always support embedded code. So if you use an iframe, it's best to turn off distribution to those channels for that particular post. If you have a lot of posts that require embedded code, this could be problematic for growth across those important platforms.

If you do want to use an iframe on a post destined for Google AMP distribution, it can be possible if the iframe is not at the top of the page or within the first 75% of the viewport when the page is scrolled to the top (whichever is smaller). AMP is a fast technology designed for mobile users and iframes are loaded using arbitrary timing that AMP's technology cannot ensure. For this reason, it's suggested that iframes be included in places that are not visible by users upon load.

If you have an article that needs to include an iframe at the top of the page, or within the first 75% of the viewport, AMP can be turned off for that individual article within Entry Editor.

If you don't need an interactive chart to be interactive in nature, can turn it into an image and upload it directly to your post. This way it will work on all platforms, including Google AMP, Apple News, and Facebook Instant Articles. This option, when possible, is ideal to ensure you're optimized for page speed.

Take Advantage of Shortcodes

Another great way to embed media is through our shortcodes functionality. Click here to learn more about shortcodes. Shortcodes can also inserted using the Add Media Bar. Click the brackets icon ([ ]) to choose the shortcode you want to use.

Here's an example of a chart on an article page that's been inserted using a shortcode:

Shortcodes Dashboard: Dynamic Media in Just a Few Clicks

Create multidimensional content with easy-to-find shortcodes

We believe static media is dead, and that every piece of content should be multidimensional and engaging. This is why our platform enables creators so they can add dynamic media to their content in easy and efficient ways.

One simple way to add interactive content to any post is through the use of shortcodes. Shortcodes are small snippets of code that are easier to remember than longer sequences. They typically will activate a feature or embed media into an article.
