New! Update to 404 URL Tracking on RebelMouse

A 404 appears when your site isn't communicating properly with a server and an error page is delivered to your reader. Recently, RebelMouse deployed an update to better address how we track 404 pages on sites we power.

Previously, Google Analytics tracked 404 pages as if they were normal posts. This is because even if an article was deleted, the URL was still visible. For example, if your deleted post title was "Anne lives in Texas," Google would still crawl that headline.

Now when a post gets deleted, we simply serve "404 Not Found" ({{currentpage_title}} — 404 Not Found) in the <title> tag, and Google will recognize the page as a 404:

As a reminder, you can keep track of any 404s on your site via our 404 Dashboard. Please contact support@rebelmouse.com if you have any questions about 404 pages.
