Google Says They’re Increasing Communication About Algorithm Updates

If you feel like you’ve been hearing about updates from Google more often, it’s not just in your head. During a recent Google Meetup in NYC, Search Liaison Danny Sullivan said that Google hasn’t been launching more updates lately, but it has made a point to communicate about its updates to users more frequently.

Even though you may know when updates are happening more than before, you still won’t know about every little change that Google makes. In a post about the topic, Sullivan said that Google’s algorithm is updated thousands of times a year. Many of these incremental updates are so small that users and site owners won’t even know they are happening. Together, these minor updates add up to enhance Google’s search experience overall.

You probably already know that the details around Google’s algorithm updates are usually slim. Sullivan maintains in his recent post that following the search engine’s webmaster guidelines and SEO optimization tips is still the best way to make sure your site’s traffic weathers each new update with ease.

Luckily, you don’t have to worry about more than one major event, like a core update, happening at the same time. Late last year, Sullivan tweeted that Google staggers bigger updates to better measure their individual impact.

The Latest Updates From Google

Sullivan certainly isn’t mincing words when he says that Google is always making updates to its algorithm. On May 25, 2022, Google rolled out one of its notorious core algorithm updates, appropriately titled the May 2022 Core Update. On June 9, 2022, Google tweeted that the update was complete.

Just days later, the search community began to rumble that another algorithm update kicked off on June 27, 2022. We’ll keep you updated on how this latest update may impact your site traffic.

Fast forward to more than a year later in August 2021 when, after much anticipation, Google's page experience update became official.
