How to Add a Donate Button

Users can give easily with our PayPal integration

At RebelMouse, we recognize that some clients may want to add the ability for users to donate via a platform like PayPal to their site. Luckily, adding a donation module using our Layout & Design Tool is simple. This article is a step-by-step guide.

The first step is to sign into the PayPal account you want to use to receive donations.


Next, click Tools, and then All Tools.

Then, click Integrate PayPal:

Next, click PayPal buttons:

Then, click the yellow Donate button:

You will be prompted to customize your button:

Click Continue to add your organization's name and logo:

Click Continue again to customize what users are able to donate:

If you want to make it so that users are able to make donations on a monthly recurring basis, select Yes for the option "Let donors make monthly recurring donations." This will create a checkbox on the donation page that gives your users the option to make automatic donations each month.

Finally, adjust any additional options you're interested in and then click Finish and Get Code:

You will then be taken to a page with custom HTML code:

Copy this code and open your Layout & Design Tool on RebelMouse. You will need to paste this HTML code into a Custom HTML element wherever you want your donation button to exist, as shown below:

Click Save on your page layout and the process is complete. You will see the donate button on the page you've selected. Style and adjust accordingly.

Now, whenever a user clicks on your donate button, they'll be taken to a PayPay page where they can easily donate to your organization. If you have any questions, or need help with implementation or styling, reach out to your account manager or support@rebelmouse.com.

And it all makes perfect sense. The subscription model eliminates the middleman — such as the platforms — so readers get the experience and content they want, and publishers get the cash they need.

You can get a subscription for everything these days. In fact, the market for digital subscriptions is valued at $650 billion according to a new report from Lineup, a subscription management solution.

The power of the subscription model has been growing since even before the COVID-19 crisis began, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing as we enter a post-pandemic landscape. According to What’s New in Publishing, Gannett reported a 46% year-over-year increase in digital subscriptions in November 2021, putting them at 1.5M total subscribers. Hearst grew its digital subscriptions by 50% in 2021.

But subscriptions aren’t just for big name publishers. Users in 2022 are ready to pay up for legacy names and new media companies alike, as long as it’s for an experience that’s beneficial to them, reliable, and free of the clutter that can come from third-party platforms. Speaking of platforms, even TikTok and Instagram have started to gauge their audiences’ temperature on subscription experiences. So, the competition has never been steeper for publishers looking to build a subscriber base. Unfortunately, launching a simple paywall may not be enough.
