Wordpress Import Tool: how to bring all your content to our DCMS

If you have content on your old site that you want to migrate over to your new RebelMouse powered property, you can swiftly do that with our Wordpress Import Tool.

We have two instances where you can import your WP articles:

1) During sign up, when you're creating your new RebelRunner. (scroll down to #2 if this is not your case)

You'll see this screen at the end of your sign up process:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Fmedia.forumbee.com%2Fi%2F2cbc5c7c-84df-4898-8e1e-0670950fd120%2F547.png&ho=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com&s=928&h=ec1666c69be5b99cc43e40e6f552948228a174cdaa961d36c67ac71045acdd79&size=980x&c=1025582641 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Fmedia.forumbee.com%252Fi%252F2cbc5c7c-84df-4898-8e1e-0670950fd120%252F547.png%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%26s%3D928%26h%3Dec1666c69be5b99cc43e40e6f552948228a174cdaa961d36c67ac71045acdd79%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1025582641%22%7D" expand=1]

If you click on 'Import your WordPress', you will be prompted for:
- Your WP username and password
- Your xml-rpc endpoint URL, which is where we'll be pulling all your content from.
For more information or if you're unsure how to get that endpoint URL, see here.

That being said, this endpoint URL you need will most likely be the root URL of your WordPress site + /xmlrpc.php.
Example: http://yourWPsite.com/xmlrpc.php

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Fmedia.forumbee.com%2Fi%2Febb0ba23-aae3-4676-8b40-435c1bd50c50%2F547.png&ho=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com&s=1009&h=ec4e0905c9e05202caf8bfbf3a75f8fe6df923511b1a86038d78ffef8b71ed28&size=980x&c=3135453272 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Fmedia.forumbee.com%252Fi%252Febb0ba23-aae3-4676-8b40-435c1bd50c50%252F547.png%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%26s%3D1009%26h%3Dec4e0905c9e05202caf8bfbf3a75f8fe6df923511b1a86038d78ffef8b71ed28%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3135453272%22%7D" expand=1]

And if you click on the 'Advanced Options' link, you will have the possibility of installing a plugin and getting a couple more custom features for your import:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Fmedia.forumbee.com%2Fi%2F9def9a74-d476-4c05-bcb8-50c592d50a7b%2F547.png&ho=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com&s=481&h=c33f2b2f3d88f0aee597c352911734475bb52dd1bd7701031a0b7634aa018dcb&size=980x&c=4253734830 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Fmedia.forumbee.com%252Fi%252F9def9a74-d476-4c05-bcb8-50c592d50a7b%252F547.png%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%26s%3D481%26h%3Dc33f2b2f3d88f0aee597c352911734475bb52dd1bd7701031a0b7634aa018dcb%26size%3D980x%26c%3D4253734830%22%7D" expand=1]

With the plugin, we'll be able to:

- Import your wordpress authors and create RebelMouse users with them.
- Give you detail on how's the import process status, like this:

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Fmedia.forumbee.com%2Fi%2Fd45d01de-fd27-4720-8460-9bc9c3e90e3c%2F547.png&ho=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com&s=687&h=c08ce0af9b29ffea147a6b96c93517d97c654c15aa4697582d7e24cdf47cb3e6&size=980x&c=908933810 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Fmedia.forumbee.com%252Fi%252Fd45d01de-fd27-4720-8460-9bc9c3e90e3c%252F547.png%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%26s%3D687%26h%3Dc08ce0af9b29ffea147a6b96c93517d97c654c15aa4697582d7e24cdf47cb3e6%26size%3D980x%26c%3D908933810%22%7D" expand=1]

You don't have to wait for the import to be finished to go to your dashboard, you can just leave it running in the background.

2) When you already have a site, you can start your import by going to Content and Feeds.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Fmedia.forumbee.com%2Fi%2Ff42ca719-c3d7-4a60-84b6-45a3124b0548%2F547.png&ho=https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com&s=961&h=a5bb3869f22f23fb50733e6c38681a14c03b5764b7d1812330d4ea7b802d4ff1&size=980x&c=2624974840 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Fmedia.forumbee.com%252Fi%252Ff42ca719-c3d7-4a60-84b6-45a3124b0548%252F547.png%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%26s%3D961%26h%3Da5bb3869f22f23fb50733e6c38681a14c03b5764b7d1812330d4ea7b802d4ff1%26size%3D980x%26c%3D2624974840%22%7D" expand=1]

The Subscription Model Is Taking off and Competition Has Never Been Steeper

The post-pandemic user landscape is still ripe for subscription revenue

You can get a subscription for everything these days. Whether it’s a cheese-of-the-month club or annual access to read your favorite content, the subscription-based model has continued to gain steam in recent years. In fact, the market for digital subscriptions is valued at $650 billion according to a new report from Lineup, a subscription management solution.

The power of the subscription model has been growing since even before the COVID-19 crisis began, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing as we enter a post-pandemic landscape. According to What’s New in Publishing, Gannett reported a 46% year-over-year increase in digital subscriptions in November 2021, putting them at 1.5M total subscribers. Hearst grew its digital subscriptions by 50% in 2021.

But subscriptions aren’t just for big name publishers. Users in 2022 are ready to pay up for legacy names and new media companies alike, as long as it’s for an experience that’s beneficial to them, reliable, and free of the clutter that can come from third-party platforms. Speaking of platforms, even TikTok and Instagram have started to gauge their audiences’ temperature on subscription experiences. So, the competition has never been steeper for publishers looking to build a subscriber base. Unfortunately, launching a simple paywall may not be enough.

Engagement on the Rise: Why It’s Your Ticket to Loyalty

New data from Chartbeat shows engagement time is increasing despite traffic dips

Getting users to your site is only half the battle. For publishers, it’s now become more critical to focus on how long those users stay on your site — and if they ever come back. Q1 2022 data analyzed by Chartbeat found that engagement is on the rise, even though metrics like pageviews and mobile traffic experienced a decline.

Chartbeat measures engaged time by the “amount of time that readers spend actively engaging with a page — scrolling, clicking, or moving their mouse.” With this in mind, their data showed that most regions in the world registered an average of 30 seconds of engaged time on site in Q1. Readers in Latin America led the results with an average of 34.7 seconds of engaged time.
