ACE BOOKS TO PUBLISH AN ALL-NEW HISTORICAL FANTASY TRILOGY FROM JOHN W. CAMPBELL NOMINATED AUTHOR ZEN CHO NEW YORK, NY, December 16, 2014
Diana Gill, Executive Editor of Ace Books, has acquired The Sorcerer Royal, a new trilogy by rising genre talent Zen Cho, from Caitlin Blasdell at Liza Dawson Associates. The trilogy has also been sold in the United Kingdom at auction to Pan Macmillan/Bella Pagan at Tor UK. The first novel, Sorcerer to the Crown, will be published in hardcover in September 2015.
In 2013, Cho was nominated for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. Her short fiction has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and included in the Carl Brandon Society Awards Honors. Cho was born and raised in Malaysia and currently resides in England. About publishing with Ace Cho said, "I grew up on a diet of Penguin books, and Ace/Roc have published some of the most iconic SFF of our time. I'm hugely excited about becoming one of their authors. Zacharias and Prunella could not have a better chaperone in their introduction to society!"
The Sorcerer Royal series is set in an alternate historical England where magic and mayhem clash with the British elite. Sorcerer to the Crown introduces readers to Zacharias Wythe, freed slave and Sorcerer Royal of the Unnatural Philosophers, who is sent to the border of Fairyland to discover why England's magical stocks are drying up. Along the way he meets a woman with extraordinary powers, and together they set off on a path that will alter the nature of sorcery in Britain—and the world.
New York Times bestselling author Naomi Novik called Sorcerer to the Crown "…enchanting…full of delights and surprises. Zen Cho unpins the edges of the canvas and throws them wide." Whimsical and sparkling, the Sorcerer Royal series is sure to find an audience with fans of the New York Times bestselling novels The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern, and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, by Susanna Clarke—which will air as a seven-part series on BBC and BBC America in 2015—as well as Gail Carriger's New York Times bestselling Parasol Protectorate steampunk series.
